ScanLabMR

As the first online MRI simulator that quantifies and assesses clinical competence and scan quality, ScanLabMR is revolutionizing the way MRI is taught and evaluated.

Our Software

Realistic MRI Simulation

ScanLabMR is a virtual MRI simulator that is designed to incite all thoughts and practices usually experienced only at the MRI scanner, but without risk to patients and without time constraints in normal clinical practice that can limit the user’s learning process and skill progression.

How It Works

Key Features of ScanLabMR

ScanLabMR examines 3 key MRI knowledge and skill areas: SliceQuantTM to test slice prescription, ContrastLabTM to evaluate knowledge of the parameters that affect MRI image contrast, and ResolutionLabTM to assess spatial resolution understanding. Each examination includes a safety check and critical thinking questions. ScanLabMR also offers UltraLab, which not only combines the previously separated concepts of image contrast and spatial resolution into a single interface, but additionally includes RF and scan time elements within Gradient Echo, Spin Echo and Fast Spin echo pulse sequences. What’s more, with UltraLab, users can master parameter manipulation across various MRI vendors and field strengths.

Safety Check

Prior to entering the ScanLabMR examination, the user will be asked to perform the safety check. This enables the user to not only be tested on safety concepts but also helps to establish healthy habits that ensure safety concerns are addressed prior to beginning any clinical MRI examination.

SliceQuant

Slice positioning, coverage, field of view, and angulation can be assessed by comparing student slice criteria to our expert established ScanLabMR criteria. The user also sees the exact slices that their slice prescriptions have produced within the ScanLabMR user interface. These images can be used for future slice prescription and angulation, just as they are in clinical practice.

ContrastLab

Within ScanLabMR, there are ContrastLab™ examinations. Within these examinations, the student or technologist is being tested on slice prescription as well as their knowledge and understanding of parameters like TR, TE, TI, Fat Suppression, and flip angle that affect MRI image contrast in both spin, echo and gradient echo sequences.

ResolutionLab

ResolutionLab examinations focus on the user’s understanding of spatial resolution and the parameters that affect it. The user will be asked to acquire MRI images with certain in-plane and through-plane resolutions. This can be accomplished by adjusting certain parameters that impact the size of the acquired MRI imaging voxel. The resulting images will be a true reflection of the acquired spatial resolution.

UltraLab

UltraLab combines the previously separated concepts of image contrast and spatial resolution into a single interface, as well as includes RF and scan time elements within Gradient Echo, Spin Echo and Fast Spin echo pulse sequences. In addition, users can select their preferred MRI vendor, which will prompt the interface to assume the parameter terminology and behavior specific to that vendor. UltraLab also allows users to choose a desired voxel size and field strength, so images can be generated based on the chosen spatial resolution as well as the T1 recovery time differences of their field strength selection.

Critical Thinking Questions

At the end of each ScanLab examination, the user will be presented with randomized questions varying in difficulty that serve to challenge their understanding in multiple concept categories, including: Anatomy, Angiography, Artifacts, Clinical Procedures, Parameters and Trade-Offs, Pathology, Patient Preparation and Care, Safety. The user is graded based on their understanding of these individual concepts so that areas of understanding or lack of comprehension can be identified and addressed.

Accessible cohort user metrics

Monitor your students’ or staff’s progress easily and effectively regardless of the user’s geographical location. With a single click, asynchronously access unlimited past user exam reports to quantitatively evaluate their slice prescription, chosen parameters, and critical thinking answers.

Tailored experience
  • Allow or restrict access to certain body regions and examinations to keep your cohort focused.
  • Decide the current difficulty and available categories of critical thinking questions for your cohort
  • Turn On/Off “Sandbox” mode to allow for user’s assessment to be recorded or omitted from the user dashboard
  • Turn On/Off “Challenge” mode to add or omit answer criteria and user feedback. This allows the cohort manager to set how much assistance the user is given as they progress.

Hiring assessments

The first of their kind, these specialized and clinically validated assessments can be used by hiring managers to evaluate potential employment candidates. After an applicant completes the remote assessment, the results are delivered directly to the manager, providing insight into an applicant’s clinical skill that cannot be known from a resume alone and safeguarding the organization from a substantial loss of time and capital.

Skill assessments for quality assurance

The ScanLabMR staff assessments help managers to gauge their staff’s MRI understanding and consistency. For each of the three assessments, users are required to complete a scanning evaluation and answer critical thinking questions that test their comprehension on topics like artifacts and compensation, patient safety, anatomy, parameters and trade-offs, etc. These assessments help in understanding the areas where staff may require additional support and training, allowing managers to build a strong MRI Department.
